What are you doing today, God?

"How are you doing today?"

It is a common phrase. One we casually ask each other all the time in greetings or conversations. It is our way of relating to each other, learning about each other, and opening up with each other.

Today I found myself asking the Lord not How He was doing today, but What.

"What are you doing today, God."

It came out in the same way it does when I talk to another person, very casually... only... sometimes when I am asking someone (I will openly admit) how they are doing... it is because I want to tell them how I am doing...

When I asked God this question... it was in complete Awe of the Work I see Him doing around me. Dots lining us. The Lord took me somewhere today and it was maybe the first time I heard Him speak and listened with  my actions.

When I asked God what He was doing today, it was because I wanted to be involved and I felt His Spirit using me in the plans He has for something big.

When is the last time you asked another person how they were doing today with that kind of enthusiasm?

When is the last time you asked God what He was doing with an yearning to be a part of His Woven Wonder?

I ask because I have had a revelation today. I want to share with you what was on my heart. We are all guilty of self absorption from time to time. Today I will make it a mission in my life to branch out of my personal shell and truly embrace God and His plan for my life, I want to be involved!! I will also try to branch out around me with my fellow humans with that kind of energy as well!

Oh God is so good! Isn't He!?

Thank You, God, for Blessing Me by Max Lucado: A Book Review

Ok... First of all: This book is ADORABLE! :)

This story is about a sweet little caterpillar who shares with us his prayer of thanks to God for all his blessings.  He gives thanks for the little things in his life that matter to him and make his life whole, things that most people probably take for granted each day!

I think it's great to see a children's book like that! One that has cute illustrations to capture their attention while introducing a character they can love and a concept they definitely need to learn early! Gratefulness!

If I had any gripes they would be:

1) This book is too short!! I wanted it to be longer and as I was reading it to my kiddos it only felt like a half a second before the book was over. Every night when my kids go to sleep, we try to talk about what they were thankful for during the day and after doing this for a while now, I know there are plenty more things that toddlers and children THINK to be thankful for. This book could have included some other things as well and kept us in story land for a little while longer!

Short books for moms, in my opinion are no good. Kids LOVE to sit on your lap and listen for a while when the story is good! This story is good enough to have been longer!

2) I am sad I got the E-Book version and not the print. I am kicking myself now because this is one book I would have liked to kept on their book shelf in their bedroom for them to pull out and look at or read whenever they wanted to! Books like these need to be in the hands of children, not the E-Readers of parents... Hidden from them and only gotten out when parents have the convenience.

Overall... great book! Great concept! Awesome illustrations... just a little too short! :D

Want to take over my Mil Spouse Blog?

My husband is currently in transition out of the military. Although I have helped out in the Navy Wife Birth Scene... we are moving to a place where there really isn't any military! LOL.

We wanted it that way!

If there is anyone out there would like to take over my blog...

I started it a while back and have found it to be getting popular and also attract the attention of other bloggers who would have liked to conjunct... I just didn't have the time!

I will put you in contact with them if you would like!

You must keep the name and outreach to military wives and families only!

You must support doulas and a mother's freedom to birth how she chooses and where she chooses!

You must love and support OSD and promote it!

You do not have to keep any of my posts... and I may reword them and publish them myself somewhere else. If you keep them you must not remove my name and links from them as author.

There may be other rules as I think of them!

If you do not follow them... I don't know what I can do besides be very very sad for the wives who will be mislead or effected and I will publicly tell all about the betrayal... if it matters! LOL

Let me know if you are interested!!

Wouldn't this be neat!

Oh man! This is the coolest midwife video I have seen! And funny too!

There are a lot of videos out there about the midwife model of care... and how it is much more personal that seeking care with an OB. It seems midwifes spend much more time just being with us and they stay with us throughout labor...

I have yet to have the chance to doula a birth attended by a midwife and I am DYING to! I want to so bad... I want to know the difference! I am not having any more children and so I will never know they joy of having a midwife deliver my baby. I have had two births and they have both been in hospitals...

Did you birth with a midwife? Was it as awesome as the video portrays?

Oh and I found this video while browsing other blogs... this one was on Knit in the Womb. :) Liker her on Facebook!

Baby/Toddler Words This Week

English Translation- Triceratops (trˈsɛrətɒps/ try-serr-ə-tops

This type of dinosaur can bee seen in the hands of my (almost) two year old throughout the day. If he is without Teetops... he is usually screaming "Teetops" because he is very frightened of loosing this precious dino.

The Teetops is also the subject of a brand new Bubble Guppies episode called "Can you Dig it?" and sometimes if this show has not been seen in a while my toddler with also scream "Teetops" because he misses seeing his buddy on TV! Although, we do find out that the Teetops is posing as a T-Rex later in the show. My son ignores this... :)

It is often confusing as to which Teetops he is screaming about. The dino toy or the dino from the show...

Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative: Why It's Important!

What is the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative? Have a look at this wonderful website!

The Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative is a set of guidelines under review. It is my hope that all hospitals, birth centers, or home birth services will eventually adapt the principles behind the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative as their own and receive designation as "Mother-Friendly Facilities"

"The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) is a coalition of individuals and national organizations with concern for the care and wellbeing of mothers, babies, and families. Our mission is to promote a wellness model of maternity care that will improve birth outcomes and substantially reduce costs. This evidence-based mother-, baby-, and family-friendly model focuses on prevention and wellness as the alternatives to high-cost screening, diagnosis, and treatment programs."
"To receive CIMS designation as "mother-friendly," a hospital , birth center, or home birth service must carry out the these philosophical principles by fulfilling the Ten Step of Mother-Friendly Care."

There are 10 steps to the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative.

I started a blog series on another blog of mine breaking down each step and explaining it's importance. I have decided to post them here as well because I feel these guidelines and this initiative's goals are very important to the wellbeing of all pregnant and laboring women!

You are entitled to ask you care facility if they follow these guidelines and if they do not, present them with the information. If health care facilities are never pushed in new and better directions, they will never make changes. They will stay the same until someone calls attention.

By learning about the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative you are allowing yourself to fully understand the elements a facility truly needs to posses in order to provide quality care to it's pregnant and birthing patients.

Please stay tuned over these next few weeks as I continue to post about this wonderful initiative. Take the time to learn about it and feel free to ask any questions or chime into the discussion as you feel led.

This is about supporting you! :)

Mom's Advice Magazine

Mom's Advise Magazine is a great new online publication with a goal of creating a community of moms who support and encourage each other. Mom to Mom!

The cool thing about this magazine is that it is interactive. It ALSO has the option to be printed so you can take it with you! With everything that is online now, I get sad when I see publications like Mothering Magazine pull out of print. I miss the printed word! I am one of those weirdos who likes the smell of magazines and library books.

This community of moms is part magazine, video, and blog for you to connect with other moms who might be dealing with or enjoying the same parenting journeys you are! They have pregnancy support just for you!

The other cool thing I like about Mom's Advice Magazine is that they support mompreneurs! This magazine loves to connect moms with other moms who will appreciate our products!

This magazine with all it's awesome features becomes personal to you as you interact with it! Whether you want to watch a video, read an article, or chat with other moms about hot topics you can find all of these feature at Mom's Advice Magazine for you to enjoy!

LaborPro? Who's the Labor Pro?

Have you seen this video yet? The one that describes the latest in birth technology?

I'm not sure how I feel about it? On the various online groups I am a part of there is a huge buz. Mostly in negative over this idea. But I'm not so sure it's a bad thing!

On one hand... how many more things are medical experts going to try to "control" in regards to the laboring women? You can't put labor in a box... it is different for everyone! Things like this will only limit women further in their birth processes. Placing them in a smaller box with which to perform! If the "data" is not right... or if the "technology" shows that things are not "normal" what will happen next?

On the other hand... fewer vaginal exams would be great! They cause to many issues in the first place... There really is no need for them. With this tool there will definitely be fewer of those! Also I think one of the *cool* things about this tool is that, if doctors are using it, there is no way they could scare tactic the mother into unnecessary interventions when everything is so "clearly" laid out on the monitor...

But on the other other hand... Labor cannot be placed in a box. So will scare tactic only worsen when doctors try harder to see mothers in this narrow window of labor progress? Will mothers be like "let me see, let me see" and loose focus on their actual labor?

What do you think? Is this a good idea?
